A day of sunshine and rest

I'll keep it short today because I've done nothing more than spending my day in the sunshine reading or in the pool cooling down. Well besides eating of course! And it's no way I can make that exiting enough to read about in a long blog entry! 😆

Tomorrow we'll be off again on a little road trip. We're going up north on the island to visit Zion Hut!

Looking forward to it although it means I'll yet again be out on the sea (I never learn), but I'm hoping this will be a great experience (without sea sickness)! More about it in my blog entry tomorrow! Stay tuned!

Long beach

Today we went on another road trip. It wasn't a long one, it only took us about 5-7 kilometres, but in this heat and with kids a walk was not optional! We took the hotel shuttle into town, Duong Dong, but I'm not sure I would call it a "town". It's a long street with houses, restaurants and hotels lined on each side. Very few shops, more like a very tiny rooms with some groceries inside. I'd love to find like a supermarket here, but no luck so far. I have absolutely no idea where everyone buys their groceries, but I doubt they do it in those small shops I'm talking about because the assortment they're carrying is just to small. I'll have to remember to ask someone working at the hotel about that!

This is the road I'm talking about, and almost every where you look they're building new hotels (the beach is just a few meters behind this new building). I guess coming back here in about five years would be a totally new experience and by then there will be more than one supermarket for sure!
I had no specific shopping goals with our trip into Duong Dong, but I came back to the hotel with two of these coffee filters that they use here to make their Vietnamese coffee. It's going to be really fun to serve coffee at home with these! And they were really cheap,  two for about 34 SEK (just under $4).

Although being in town we spent most of the day at the beach, Long beach. I had planned to get a massage, but I never did. I played with mini-me and dated my Kindle instead. The book (series) in reading now is making my mind twirl and I have trouble letting go of it even when I'm not reading. And it's not because I love it, or because it's written beautifully or poetic. It's really an awful story that I'm truly fighting to understand and/or accept. I think I keep at it because it's so far from my own reality that I feel forced to read about it to learn - to understand the disturbing truth in parts of the story (human trafficking). At times I'm so disgusted about what I'm reading I feel truly sick to my stomach, but yet I can't seem to let it go. Instead I fight to understand. And it twirls in my mind, stealing time and energy. But, talking about this book (series) should be a blog entry entirely on its own, so let's leave that for now.

Let's talk about this amazing fruit instead, Pomelo, which I seem to be addicted to since coming here! I absolutely love it! Have you tried it?

If not, try too! It's divine! 👌🏻 I hope I'll find it when I get back home to Sweden!
It's that big light green, pear shaped fruit in the middle of the fruit platter!

Tomorrow we'll stay at the hotel again and I'm looking forward to a day by the pool/beach. It's so much calmer here than on Long beach and I still feel that is what I need and want. No overcrowded beaches and loud sounds never quieting! Our hotel, Mercury, is secluded and with no other hotels nearby which makes the beach quiet and without stress of any kind, and I love it!

Nothing new

Another day spent at the beach/pool area at our hotel. We initially had other plans, but my sister wasn't feeling up to it after having eaten something bad. She's not sick, but her tummy is a bit upset so she wanted to stay at the hotel. Tomorrow we'll go to another beach though, the shuttle bus will pick up us up at 10, so there's no hurry, we can eat our breakfast in orderly fashion!
And speaking of breakfast, the hotel has this amazing breakfast every morning! Even I, who doesn't eat gluten, feels satisfied after eating their breakfast each morning. And every day there're plates upon plates with different fresh fruits. This morning I had Pomelo, a huge citrusy (very sweet) fruit. Loved it!

And as the day before, I had my second breakfast by the pool; a coconut breeze mocktail (pineapple, coconut and banana). Sooo good! 👌🏻
Remember my visitor, the dragonfly, from yesterday? A friend of his/hers stopped by at lunch today, super cute! 😍

We had this amazing sunset tonight. Pure beauty! Making everyone watching fall in silence and aw! Loved it!

Same old, same old

I've spent my day almost entirely on the same spot, my sun bed. I've taken a few short walks between the pool area, our villa and the restaurant, that's it (not counting swimming in the pool). The trip to another beach didn't happen today, but it will tomorrow. Instead we've enjoyed the facilities at our hotel!
Same view as the other day.

Biggest question of the day was; should I swim in the pool or in the ocean. I chose the pool. I've been reading this really great book on my Kindle and I didn't want to be away from it too long. And the beach was like 25 meters away and the pool less than one! 😜

No alcohol today, but juicy juice! 😃👌🏻

Just before ending my day I had a visitor. So cute! A little dragonfly! ❤

All in all - I had a great day!

Road trip

Today we went out on a road trip, for a change of scenery! First up a pearl farm. Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. A farm with oysters growing pearls. Beautiful pearls! Didn't take any pictures and the whole visit was over in about ten minutes. The showing of opening oysters and picking out the pearls took like two minutes. The guide wasn't super interested in answering all our questions, she wanted us inside the shop buying as many pearls that we could. But as this was our first stop for the day, and as the farm is situated like 500 meters from our hotel (we didn't know that), we decided to come back another day to buy our pearls. I want new earrings, and they had so many different colours so I'm going to have troubles buying just one pair. 😬

Next stop was the national park and a climb in the jungle to reach this beautiful waterfall. But...we were not alone... I haven't got a clue who the couple on the right is, but my twin sister is in the middle of the picture (pink shorts). It took us about twenty minutes to walk up the mountain, and it was really hot. It's dry season here now so I figure the walk is much more worth the effort when it's not so dry. But, been there, done that now! 😜

And yes, I did get into the water, at least my feet. 👍🏻

Next stop, and we'll needed in the heat, was Bao Sao beach. Known as one of Phu Quoc most beautiful beaches! And yes, it was truly beautiful!

We stayed there a couple of hours and had our lunch there as well.

I had spring rolls with vegetables and minced pork, very tasty! And this was actually the first restaurant on the island that had marked each dish that was gluten free and vegetarian (my niece is vegetarian), so for the first time since we got here I didn't have to spend time trying to explain that I need gluten free food. 👌🏻👍🏻

The last stop for the day was the Coconut prison. A prison used during the Vietnam war.
This is a horrific place, scary in so many ways and levels. The cruelty we human possess is so frightening! They've placed "dolls" all over the prison to show how it would have looked/been like during the war.

This was one way to torture the prisoners, keeping them locked up in this shack in full sunlight, without food or water.

Or these cages. 😔

All throughout the buildings are gruesome scenes of violence, abuse, cruelty and torture.

So, I would not recommend to bring young children (like we did). When we realised what we were about to see, I had to take mini-me with me and leave. I don't want her to see these things, it was just too awful.

But, as I said, I think you should go visit the prison if you're ever on the island. We all need to learn from places like this. How not to act against each other! We are not animals, so let us not act like we are. I haven't at all shown you all the terrible torture going on in this place, and I won't. I'm sure there are lots of books to read about the Vietnam war and all that happened. I'm just glad we stopped at the prison and that I had the opportunity to walk through it and see what happened there. I feel sorry for the poor souls that died there, innocent or not, and those who suffered before being released/rescued/taken from there. No one should have to endure torture and being mistreated like that. And yes, I understand that some of them were monsters. That they too had tortured or killed before being put there, but that doesn't make it ok. Somewhere, sometime someone must say STOP! I'll not continue on this dialogue here (now). I'm sure there are all sorts of arguments, beliefs, explanations and/or thoughts abot this, and I'm not a warrior. I'm just me! Maybe my thoughts are not at all valid, but I will always fight for peace, love, forgiveness and equality. War is beneath us, we're smarter than that! 🙏🏻

Well, it was hard to do anything after the visit at the prison, so we went back to the hotel and focused on the kids, making them happy! Which of course ment a few hours by the pool as the sun set in the ocean.

But as the dark fell, we left and got back to our hotel room/villa. Tomorrow we'll stay at the beach by our hotel until lunch, then we're going on a new road trip! Not sure where yet though! 😃

Dating

I've had a good day. A day of dating. My Kindle. 😜
This hotel is really great and I've enjoyed myself immensely today, feeling more than happy and content! 🙏🏻
Stayed poolside today, to be near the pool for when mini-me decides to go swimming. She prefers the pool to the ocean here as there's plankton in the ocean stinging the skin when bathing. I don't mind much (I've only felt one sting so far), but she gets really upset. So today we stayed close to the pool.

I made a promise to my Snapchat followers earlier today, that I would make my lazy legs work in the gym...but I didn't keep it. 🙈 It's been a really lazy day...

I had Cesar salad for lunch which was really tasty. Surprisingly so actually. But my G. they must have had like ten cloves of garlic in that sauce! I don't mind though, it's those around me that might be bothered most. 😜

I had three scopes of ice cream for dessert; dark chocolate, coconut and cinnamon. The cinnamon was divine! I could live on that, never eating anything else again! Heavenly! 👌🏻

Ive been dating my Kindle almost all day, but still I had troubles letting go off it when going home from the beach! 😜

Tomorrow we're going on a road trip, exploring the island by car. We're visiting Coconut prison (used during the Vietnam war), pearl farm and some of the beaches far south on the island! I'll make sure to document the day in pictures so I can show you guys tomorrow night! 👍🏻

Merry Christmas

Today we celebrate Christmas 🎄 and invite Santa Claus to our home (hotel room)! He even found his way to our new hotel, making mini-me wild with happiness! 🎅🏻🎁

As usual the gifts are for the children, I'd rather spend the money on gifts for me to support a good cause, and this year I'll give my money to the people in Aleppo. They need all the help they can get! If you're from Sweden, you can find all the information needed at Röda korset, Rädda barnen, UNHCR or War Child. Aleppo is known as hell on earth, and we have the power to change that! To help those in need! No one can do it all, but we all can do something! ❤

Our new little villa! ❤

New beach!

And me trying to hold on to the sunset on Christmas Eve. This has been as magical a day as it has always been since I was a child! A very merry Christmas to all of you lovely followers! I hope you all find peace, serenity and joy on this wonderful holiday, and that you may celebrate it with those closest to your heart! If not physical so in spirit, I know I will! ❤

Sunshine all around

It's been a very, very hot day today! I've spent most of it in the shade, reading.

Almost anyway! I did venture out in the sun at times, to sunbathe and/or swimming in the ocean.

And I ended the day by the pool. Nothing more to tell you about my day than that. A lazy, amazing and happy day here in Phu Quoc! Tomorrow we're moving to a new hotel, let's hope it's at least as good as this one! 👍🏻

Boat trip

Today I've been out on the sea all day! The funny thing is I really don't like being out on boats! But somehow I always venture out on them when on vacation. 😳 As if I forget the sea sickness that almost always comes over me and forces me up on deck, breathing fresh air and staring blankly at the horizon as I mentally try to envoke some kind of hidden superpower inside of me to force time to go faster.

And of course I didn't want to feel sick so I started off putting myself down in a sun chair on deck, staring at that horizon and tried that mental game that has the complete opposite effect - making it feel like time is standing still. It took about 1,5-2 hours to arrive to Turtle island where we had our first snorkelling stop planned. A really tiny little island 🌴 that you easily walked around in less then 5 minutes. I didn't get any pictures from there, but it was really cute and the water was crystal clear. And the snorkelling was apparently fabulous! I just swam with mini-me from the boat to the shore (about 75 meter) and was happy to feel ground under my feet again. And yes, I saw some colourful fishes on the way, but I didn't spend two hours snorkelling like the rest of the bunch. Mini-me and I went searching the beach for the most beautiful seashells instead.

We had rented a boat (my family and my sisters family, a total of 4 adults and 3 children) for our own the entire day. Beautiful isn't it! And it's not at all as expensive that you might think! We paid like $165 for the entire day, including food (and the staff of course). Our guide was a really funny Vietnamese guy who spoke almost every language you could think of, but not at all fluently, just some phrases, and most of them out of context. But he was great! We're letting him take us around the island by car next week. There's a lot to see!
Most of the time on the boat I spent lying down in the sun bed. Which was quite nice considering we had fabulous weather all day. The picture above might tell another truth, but actually those gray clouds disappeared and left a clear blue sky behind! 👍🏻

We got offered some sea delicacies for lunch!

But I really didn't feel up to it! The others tasted the sea urchin, but my stomach wasn't at all interested in tasting that. But apparently they were tasty. I had the "ordinary" lunch; noodles with pork and cabbage, fried vegetables with garlic, vegetable soup, omelette, barbecued fish, rice and watermelon for dessert. Not bad for a lunch onboard a boat with no real kitchen! And very, very tasty!

Tomorrow I'll be back on the beach again, and I've promised myself not to go out on any more boat trips, at least not on this vacation! 😆

Lazy day in the sun

Not much happening here. Just another marvellous day in the sun! 😜☀️

There's been almost no clouds in the sky today, and no winds, so it's been really warm. I know I said that yesterday too, but today was much warmer. But not too warm of course! Especially not when enjoying your day on the beach.

And as usual I had my second breakfast on the beach, pineapple from the fruit lady! 👌🏻
And today we tried something new, or rather my brother in law did, Vietnamese coffee! I had regular coffee with milk, which was absolutely divine! I don't know why it was sooo good, but it was heaven sent! 🙏🏻 The Vietnamese version is strong black coffee poured into a cup layered with condensed milk. As I can't eat lactose, I couldn't taste it, but he said it was more like eating dessert than just having a cup of coffee. But of course really tasty (sugary and sweet).

We enddd our day by the pool (the kids always wants to end their day there). Chatting with my sister! And then we swam 200 m, which doesn't sound a lot, but considering I haven't done that in years, I'm quite happy I made it through! And my sister is a better swimmer then me, so I had to fight to swim as fast as her. 😆 Maybe I should go swimming at home too, seems to be good for my back pains.

Now I'm putting mini-me to bed. We've had a mother-daughter moment after dinner (or not😂)! But we're going on a boat trip tomorrow so she needs her sleep! We're visiting two other islands and snorkelling! Should be fun (says the one always getting sea sick)!
