A beautiful day

It might sound like I'm on repeat, but I've had an amazing day! Starting with a visit to Ottenby and hearing all about the process of collecting and putting rings on the birds.

I highly recommend you a visit here, it's amazing even at cloudy and windy days like today!

The bird observatory is up on the left side and the lighthouse "Långe Jan", straight a head.

This is where the magic happens!

And this little girl is up next!

She didn't just get a ring on her leg, they measured her, weighed her and appreciated her age (probably two years).

Some birds, like swans, have rings that's rather large, wouldn't you say?

The birds are collected in nets, that are checked every thirty minutes.

Out in the Baltic Sea seals lay resting on stone sticking up from the water.

When leaving, some of the habitants made us go really slow...

Eastern coastline of Öland, a very beautiful road along the sea.

Windmills is situated here and there along the road.

Then we went to visit Ismantorp, an ancient fortress remain in use around 300-650 CE. It's a ringfort made out of limestone. To this day they still don't know what the fortress was used for as they've found almost no evidence of someone ever living here.

The wall is over 450 meters long and they've counted to 95 remains of houses inside the ancient fortress walls.

There where 9 gates to enter the fortress, all strangely in different sizes and forms.

We found a frog! I don't remember the name, but it had something to do with long legs. 😁

This flower looks like a fly to attract male flies to land on them and pollinate the flower.

Another orchid! There's a lot of them here on the island!

In late afternoon we visited the Halltorp preserves. One of the few places in Sweden where you still can find populations of large capricorn beetle. They live and breed in large and very old oaks.

Our guide had caught one for us, a male. Amazing! He looked like an alien!

I had hoped that we might find a stag beetle as well, but sadly we only found a head. Apparently crows like to eat them and leaves only the head when finished.

We ended the island tour today with a drink in the sun at Ekerum resort. An amazing golf course for those playing golf.

Tomorrow we're of to Alvaret!

Laters babes!

Over and out
